The Eagles will be relying on Jordan Matthews to carry the team, but he will have to do so with a chip on his shoulder.
After the team waived Matthews last week, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly expressed concern about the young receiver’s ability to handle the pressure and make big plays.
The Eagles are going to have to take some time to find Matthews the right balance between his physical abilities and his mental toughness, Kelly said.
Kelly, a former quarterback, will have the opportunity to have a similar discussion with Matthews if he can’t get the most out of him as the season goes on.
The Philadelphia Eagles will play a short week of practices on Saturday.
The Eagles open training camp at 5 p.m.
Saturday against the San Diego Chargers at AT&T Stadium.
