Canada’s national printing house is selling its digital printing services to a Toronto printer, as the company’s print output drops sharply in Toronto due to high unemployment.
The Canadian Press reported Friday that Digital House Canada has agreed to buy the print services of Toronto’s Ink Factory Digital, which makes digital printing and other products.
The deal will enable Digital House to continue to operate the Toronto print production plant as well as support other parts of its business, the report said.
The company said it would use the Ink Factory digital printing system to print the new printing facility, which it expects to be completed by the end of 2020.
The Ink Factory is part of a digital printing industry that is booming in Canada, where the industry has exploded in the past few years with a boom in digital printing.
But the number of print jobs in Canada is declining as the number in print jobs declines.
Inks, a company that makes digital printers, saw its print output drop 2.6 per cent in the first quarter, down from a year earlier, the most recent period for which data is available.
In recent months, the company has faced increased competition from companies such as Apple and Google that offer printing services in Canada.
Inks also has been dealing with a drop in sales in parts of Canada.
The print output at Ink Factory has declined by 2.9 per cent since last quarter.
The ink printing plant employs about 4,000 people.
Digital House Canada operates printing plants in the United States, Britain and France.
