The Code has long been a guiding principle of the printing industry, guiding what should and should not be printed on paper, and it’s also what has allowed the print industry to flourish and become a multi-billion dollar business.
Now, the Code of conduct has been amended to allow more companies to adhere to the Code.
The new rules, published this week in the Federal Register, were inspired by the success of the company “Cedar House Printing” in the United States.
Cedarhouse, founded by two college graduates, used their own printing machines to create posters and books, which they then shipped across the United State.
They also did marketing and advertising for a company called “Cedar House Printing”.
CedarHouse’s business model was that they used a “print house” model, in which a printing facility would be set up, but the work was not done until a customer requested it.
They offered their own machines to customers, and the customer could then purchase the machine and print on it.
“Our main customers were small businesses and hobbyists, who were not as big as a major chain like Staples or Amazon,” says David Pomerantz, a principal at Ceren, a printing and packaging company that is part of the CedarHouse Group.

(Cedarhouses Group)”These small businesses would go out and they’d order a couple of books, and they could do a bit of marketing.
They’d get in touch with the customer, and if it went well, they’d deliver their goods.”
The CedarHouse business model made sense, says Pomeranz, as they were not able to offer more services.
“But we didn’t really see the need to change the design or the layout of the machine, so we decided to let them operate it as a business.”
He says Cedarhouse has had “a great start” in their print business, but had to rethink their print design as they struggled to compete.
“We realized that if we kept the print house model, we would lose all the value of the product,” he says.
“The printing is a part of it, but it’s not a part that you can actually see.”
Pomerantz says that CedarHouse now prints books for $20 a page, which is significantly cheaper than other companies.
He says they’ve also changed the way they design their machines to ensure that their printers are as precise and accurate as possible.

“If you were to hold them up to a mirror, the size of the print would change.
It was a real challenge.”
He notes that the printing process also changed for the better, as the Cedarhouse printers now use the same printer as the ones used by the printers at other print houses, such as Staples, Amazon and Walmart.
“They have a much lower tolerance for error than other print shops,” he notes.
“There is a reason for that.”
Pomberg says that because of these improvements, CedarHouse is now able to print books at a much higher quality, with higher-quality prints that are easier to read.
He explains that Cedarhouse is now using a “brick and mortar” printing process, which means that they are not relying on paper to be precise.
“This means that we have more flexibility with the quality and the accuracy,” he tells Hack.

“When you buy a printing machine, you don’t buy a machine from someone who makes the machine,” he said.
“You buy it from someone that can do the best job for you, and that’s Cedarhouse.
They can make a machine that does everything right.
They have a great design, they can print it very quickly and they have an excellent team.”
Pimberg says they are also using the new printing process to offer free shipping to all customers who order through their website.
He notes they have already been offering free shipping for their customers for more than a year.
“I think that has changed the whole business model,” he observes.
“We have now become the most efficient way to deliver our customers’ orders.”
